Setting the Stage~
Knowing Eli comes for Ash, John and Cora, and Ash and Livie have gone north to the safety of John's aunt and uncle's home on the reservation. It's a cozy house.

My Seven~
“Aajigade, are you awake?” John whispered at his wife’s ear.

“Mmm hmm.” Only pine boards separated the rooms on the upper floor. Although the lack of a sound barrier never seemed to faze John, that fact had doused many intimate moments for Cora over the years. Intimacy was more a state of mind than a physical state in his culture, no doubt a hold-over from millennia of communal living. Livie and Ash were in the next room and muffled sounds that went from bad dream to comfort to lovemaking came through the knotty pine. It sounded like a crescendo was imminent.

Cora pictured Ash standing in his naked splendor last night. It reminded her of the first time she saw John naked. Recently returned from Kuwait, he was lean and hard-muscled. She wound her arm around his waist. He was still hard-muscled, but time and living with her had made him thicker around the middle. His genes hadn’t had time to leave the Stone Age. The modern American diet heaped troublesome health issues on Natives, necessitating constant vigilance over what he ate. She snuggled closer. The sounds of hard coupling spurred her hand to glide lower.

John chuckled. “I’m glad they’ve gotten on.”

Cora laughed quietly. “I’d say they’re getting it on.” Sure enough, the tempo cooled and silence followed. Her hand closed around him.

“What are you up to there, girl? You say I make too much noise.”

“If we hurry, your aunt and uncle will think it’s them.”
