My Sexy Saturday!

It's time for another My Sexy Saturday! Find more sexy 7's here:

http://mysexysaturday.blogspot.com/

Here's the scoop: Participating authors will post 7 paragraphs, 7 sentences, or 7 words. For me, this time it's 7 sentences from my backlist -- I give you Dreamscape.

Setting the Stage: Lainie  was out on a blind date. Seeing the tell-tale evidence of kisses upon her, Jason gets annoyed. Is that what makes ghosts haunt?

My seven:
Sharing passionate kisses with a man you just met! Annoyed, Jason swept his hand across the counter and knocked the spoon to the floor with a clatter.

Lanie jumped at the sound. Frowning, she reached under the chair where a spoon had inexplicably fallen then looked around for anything that might have knocked it on the floor, hoping she didn’t have large mice or, God forbid, rats. Setting it in the sink, she said, “I think I have ghosts.”

Jason’s anger instantly faded as her statement took him by surprise. Testing her, he slowly opened the cabinet door, the old hinges squeaking and groaning.

"Just an absolutely stunning story, and one that all lovers of romance fiction need to read." "It is all here and Ms Anderson has woven it all into a novel that is beautifully written, well-edited, and put together so that the parts of the story flow together seamlessly." "It is a novel I have no difficulty calling a work of art."

#SexySnippets!

Another Sunday and another Sexy Snippets!

The idea is to post just seven sentences to capture the imagination. Today, I'm offering another small sampling from an unusual Victorian ghost story. Written in homage to Agatha Christie, Dreamscape is a haunting, a murder, a thriller, a mystery, and a love story that transcends time. Above all, this sensual tale is a reader's Easter egg hunt in the truest sense. Not everything is as it appears. Peppered throughout are little clues suggesting a story running behind the scenes. Finding them isn't necessary to the telling of the tale, just one of the fun twists I like to insert into my writing. Can you find them all before the story ends? But more importantly, can a ghost find love among the living?

Setting the stage:

Lanie spends her first night in her newly purchased "haunted" Victorian house. The local rumors are true.

My seven:

The curtains waved wildly as the wind picked up. Lanie closed the window all the way then appeared to have a second thought and left it open a little. Thunder in the distance declared there was a storm coming. Pulling off her shirt, she turned out the bedside lamp and slid naked between the sheets. Again she spoke to the quiet house, “Well, I’ll find out if the roof of my haunted house leaks, won’t I?”

Jason smiled. To his knowledge the roof didn’t leak, but the house was haunted.

"Rose Anderson weaves a masterfully crafted story richly lavish in lush description, interesting cast of characters, red herrings and spicy love scenes."

Sexy Snippets!

Another Sunday and another Sexy Snippets! When you're done reading mine, see what the other participants are offering. I'll bet they're juicy!
http://thenuthousescribblers.blogspot.co.uk
The idea here is to post seven sexy sentences from your work.

In keeping with the spirit of the season, my 7 come from my ghost story Dreamscape.

Setting the stage: Jason was astounded the night he realized he could touch Lanie's skin. The fact she was so warm appealed to this ghost. It made him feel just a little bit alive himself.

My 7:
His entire being desired to lose himself in the living heat of her. There was simply no stopping himself from caressing her, having lost that particular battle of conscience the first night she lay in his bed. He’d convinced himself that as long as he kept his baser needs to himself, touching her while she was completely unaware was a harmless compulsion.

Materializing just under the linens, his glowing form lit the sheet like a Japanese lantern. He whispered to her unconscious mind as she lay curled on her side, “Lay back for me, sweetheart, let me look at you fully while I feel how warm you are.”

Unconsciously responding to his suggestion, she rolled on her back, one arm tossed casually over her pillow.

Once more marveling that he was able to touch her at all, he swept her raven hair back from her lovely face, his thumb lightly traced the delicate arch of her eyebrow.

"It drew me in from the very beginning and I didn't want to put it down."

HUMP DAY HOOK #HDH.

It's Wednesday, time for the HUMP DAY HOOK, a weekly blog meme where authors post a portion of their writing as a teaser.
Follow this link for a complete listing of this week's participants: Hump Day Authors.

My excerpt today comes from Dreamscape.

Lainie goes out on a blind date while the ghost of Jason Bowen broods at home. Jason's imagination has the best of him and he's more than a little annoyed that Lainie went out alone with a strange man dressed like that (the standard little black dress is shocking attire to a Victorian gentleman) and returned with kiss-swollen lips.
Finding her date a bit too much, Lanie just wants to put the evening behind her.

The Hook:
......Jason followed her upstairs and watched as she washed her face, brushed her teeth, and changed into her worn, comfortable-looking clothing. Still invisible, he didn’t follow behind her when she went back downstairs. Rather he focused his mind and appeared alongside her at the bottom. He followed her to the parlor.

Lainie turned on Margaret’s television and took a seat on the sofa directly across. Picking up the remote, she proceeded to flip through channels.

Watching her, Jason shook his head. “Oh no, sweetheart, I haven’t waited the entire night for you to lose yourself to this contrivance.” With that he projected his spirit energy into the wires that fed the machine electricity. The screen instantly filled with snow.

Lanie frowned at the snowy screen and flipped through channel after channel looking for better reception. “Oh, come on!” she told the television. After another run-through, she gave up and turned it off. “Damn it. All I wanted to do was unwind before bed.” She ran an exasperated hand over her face. There was a lot to do the following day and she knew it would take hours for her to fall asleep. A thought came to her. Most over-the-counter sleep aides were antihistamine-based. Having seasonal allergies, that was something she had readily available. It would certainly make her sleepy. Deciding she didn't want a case of medicine head in the morning, she headed to the kitchen for a cup of chamomile tea.

Jason watched her go, feeling the slightest remorse for haunting her television. He reasoned he didn’t like that noisy box. For all appearances it put Margaret into a daily trance. He followed Lainie into the kitchen where he noticed her lips again. His remorse evaporated. Sharing passionate kisses with a man you just met! Annoyed, Jason swept his hand across the counter and knocked the spoon to the floor with a clatter.

Lanie jumped at the sound. Frowning, she reached under the chair where a spoon had inexplicably fallen. She looked around for anything that might have knocked it on the floor, hoping she didn’t have large mice or, god forbid, rats. Setting it in the sink, she said, “I think I have ghosts.”

Jason’s anger instantly faded as her statement took him by surprise. Testing her, he slowly opened the cabinet door, the old hinges squeaking and groaning. She turned to the sound of the swinging door, and he watched her face carefully. No fear, just curiosity. The whistling kettle diverted her attention. Once more he found himself wishing he were able to sit over a cup of tea and talk with her. He wanted to know where she’d been tonight and why she’d kissed a man she hardly knew. He wanted to know why she haunted his thoughts as surely as he haunted these halls. But moving a spoon and a cupboard door was a far cry from materializing in full form before her.

Here's the story

"
A very tasty and fascinating read. The duel perspectives that stemmed from the fact that this story was both historical and contemporary, without being a true “time travel” romance, really made me feel as though this story got the best of both genres, and the murder mystery only drew me in further. The romance between Lanie and Jason was sweet, and the sensuality was absolutely delicious, adding a delightful level of eroticism without overshadowing the love story. I admit that I did tend to appreciate Lanie’s dreams more than her waking hours, simply because it was fascinating to see Jason not only “reliving” the weeks before his death, but actually changing things and helping to solve the mystery that surrounded the entire murder plot."

Today I'm choose seven more from Dreamscape

Setting the Stage:
The ghost of Jason Bowen was surprised to discover he could feel the heat of Lanie's skin while she sleeps. And like a moth to a flame, he returns again and again.

My snippet:
Once more marveling that he was able to touch her at all, he swept her raven hair back from her lovely face and traced his thumb along the delicate arch of her eyebrow. Touching her skin was like touching a rose petal in his garden, a warm sun-kissed rose petal. Gliding his hands over her warmth, he caressed her trim belly and arms all the while carefully avoiding the dove-soft breasts as any gentleman might unless given leave. Though it was true she hadn’t granted leave for any touching, the fragment of his gentlemanly comportment quickly faded as her living heat seeped into him.

He imagined her then as he saw her in her dream—imagined he was alive and he’d taken her out for the evening. And in his musings he’d kiss her rose-tinted lips for the longest time and she’d come to his bed without hesitation. Maidenly airs aside, she’d want him as he wanted her.
Here's the story
Dreamscape is a sensual love story, a ghost story, a time travel (of sorts), a murder, a suspense, and a mystery all rolled into one. What's more, this story is a reader's Easter egg hunt. Peppered throughout are clues hinting at a story behind the scenes.

the HUMP DAY HOOK #HDH.

The  Book Indulgence Hop is now over. Sometime in the next few days, I'll sort through my comments and find a winner. Thanks for playing along everyone!

oOoOo

It's Wednesday -- time for the HUMP DAY HOOK, a weekly blog meme where authors post a tempting portion of their writing.

Follow this link for a complete listing of this week's participants:
Hump Day Authors. And you can find links to these posts on twitter using the hashtag #HDH.

My excerpt today comes from my backlist: Dreamscape. Written in homage to Agatha Christie, Dreamscape is a haunting, a murder, a thriller, a mystery, a time travel of sorts, and a love story that transcends time.

Setting the Stage: Lanie and her friends are cleaning out the cellar and speculating on Jason Bowen's disappearance 120 years before. Clearing the space piece by piece, they find a deliberate tangle of junk, and beneath it, a shallow grave.

My Hook:
From what Lanie had told them about the days spent clearing the tangled trash down here, it was clear that a century earlier the killer wanted the body to remain undiscovered. As far as they could discern at this point by fragments of shoes and clothing and obvious deterioration of bone, the skeletal remains of a woman in her early sixties had been buried under the mountain of debris for at least a hundred years. A cursory evaluation determined she’d been struck over the head from behind. The wound showed the direction of the blow and the instrument used was the iron fireplace poker. Its pronged end fit the two holes in her skull perfectly and had been discovered along with her body in the shallow grave. Both had been rolled tightly in an Oriental rug. She also held a Civil War revolver clutched tightly in her hand. Lanie knew at a glance this was the same gun the dream Jason had shown her.

Here's the story

"There are twists and turns and surprises galore in this novel, not the least of which is the ending which absolutely flipped me on my head and left me with my mouth hanging open." "Just an absolutely stunning story, and one that all lovers of romance fiction need to read." "It is all here and Ms Anderson has woven it all into a novel that is beautifully written, well-edited, and put together so that the parts of the story flow together seamlessly." "It is a novel I have no difficulty calling a work of art." "So readers who love erotic romance wrapped in the mists of dream and fantasy and time-travel will find this to be a delightful reading experience, an entertaining way to spend some time, and an exercise of the mind and imagination. This novel is already on my favorites list as well as my "to read again" list." "This is not a story that should be missed. I feel it has been a true delight and privilege to read this tale."
~ Dr. Judith's review
