@MySexySaturday #MySexySaturday #Saturday7 #MSSAuthors

It's My Sexy Saturday! Participating authors post 7 paragraphs, 7 sentences, or 7 words.
Today a sampling from
Dreamscape ~ a contemporary/Victorian love story with a twist.

Setting the Stage~
As this point in the story, Jason the ghost finds himself annoyed that Lanie went out on a blond date.

My Seven~

Over her shoulder, in the mirror, he watched her fascinating application of tints and lash color, though, in his opinion, she was just as beautiful with as without. Her pantalets were nothing more than a Y-shaped piece of material that accented her adorable rounded backside. Her brassiere was crafted from very feminine black lace, low enough that the rosy hue of her areolas slightly peeked above the edge. A French milliner couldn’t have chosen better. She dabbed perfume behind her ears, on the inside of her wrists and at the spot above her heart. Although the fragrance was faint, he was surprised he could smell the familiar floral scent on her as she passed, and that sense had been dead as long as he. Holding this piece of clothing or that before her, she appraised her reflection in the mirror with each. After four considerations, the dress she settled on was black and short—too short. He found himself frowning.

The frown persisted as the mantle clock stuck ten o’clock and deepened when it struck eleven. By eleven-thirty-two, he was in a fine pique. Hearing Lanie’s automobile roll onto the gravel drive, he invisibly materialized downstairs to meet her at the door with his arms folded across his chest in irritation. Looking her over from head to toe as she came in talking on her telephone, he thought her lips were a little chafed, a little too swollen. She’d kissed the man she’d just met that night, no doubt more than once. The thought annoyed him more than the late hour.

“No really, I had a nice time with Jim.” She laughed. “Yes, nosy, I let him kiss me. Lexie, I know, but please no more dates until I finish the clinic. Please? I have too much to do to get sidetracked.” She laughed again. “I don’t know, maybe I'll see him again. Yes he kissed fine! Maybe. Lex. Alright, you can set us up again when I get things done here. No, I don’t know how long it’s going to be—I have the clinic to open! Yes, I know you do. No, when I’m done you’ll be the first to know. I promise. Love you, too.” She hung up the phone shaking her head. “Sheesh,” she said in exasperation, but the over-kissed smile lingered.

Irritated a great deal, he followed her upstairs and watched as she washed her face, brushed her teeth, and changed into her worn, comfortable-looking clothing. Still invisible, he didn’t follow behind her when she went back downstairs. Rather he focused his mind and appeared alongside her at the bottom. Heading to the parlor, she turned on Margaret’s television and took a seat on the sofa directly across. When kissing her date goodnight, he suddenly had the arms of an octopus. She picked up the remote and proceeded to flip through channels, feeling wired from fending off her date’s sweet but unwanted attentions. Watching her, Jason shook his head. “Oh no, sweetheart, I haven’t waited the entire night for you to lose yourself to this contrivance.” With that he projected his spirit energy into the wires that fed the machine electricity. The screen instantly filled with snow.

Lanie frowned at the snowy screen and flipped through channel after channel looking for better reception. “Oh, come on!” she told the television. After another run-through, she gave up and turned it off. “Damn it. All I wanted to do was unwind before bed.” She headed to the kitchen for a cup of chamomile tea. Jason watched her go, feeling the slightest remorse for haunting her television. He reasoned he didn’t like that noisy box that for all appearances put Margaret into a daily trance. He followed her into the kitchen where he noticed her lips again. His remorse evaporated. Sharing passionate kisses with a man you just met! Annoyed, Jason swept his hand across the counter and knocked the spoon to the floor with a clatter.

Lanie jumped at the sound. Frowning, she reached under the chair where a spoon had inexplicably fallen then looked around for anything that might have knocked it on the floor, hoping she didn’t have large mice or, God forbid, rats. Setting it in the sink, she said, “I think I have ghosts.”

Jason’s anger instantly faded as her statement took him by surprise. Testing her, he slowly opened the cabinet door, the old hinges squeaking and groaning. She turned to the sound of the swinging door, and he watched her face carefully. No fear, just curiosity. The whistling kettle diverted her attention. Once more he found himself wishing he were able to sit over a cup of tea and talk with her. He wanted to know where she’d been tonight and why she’d kissed a man she hardly knew. He wanted to know why she haunted his thoughts as surely as he haunted these halls. But moving a spoon and a cupboard door was a far cry from materializing in full form before her.

Here's the story
About this book: Written in homage to Agatha Christie, Dreamscape is a haunting, a murder, a mystery, a time travel of sorts, and a scorching love story that transcends time. It's also a reader's Easter egg hunt. Peppered throughout are hints suggesting a story behind the scenes. Finding them isn't necessary to the telling of the tale, just a fun twist in my writing.  :)

It's Wednesday and I'm participating in Paranormal Love Wednesdays. Link to participants. Today, I'm offering a small sampling from Dreamscape ~ Written in homage to Agatha Christie, this tale is a haunting, a murder, a thriller, a mystery, a time-travel of sorts, and a love story that transcends time. Dreamscape is also a reader's Easter egg hunt. Not everything is as it appears. Peppered throughout are little clues suggesting a story running behind the scenes.

Setting the Stage:
Lanie now knows about her ghost. Dr. Jason Bowen is the man she's been dreaming about for years. Still, he takes a little getting used to.

My Snippet:
“I sense I make you nervous. I’d never hurt you, you know. Please believe that.”

“I believe you Jason, I -- I’m not dressed.”

“And I am a mere shadow of a man. Please don’t be shy in front of me, Lanie, I’m a ghost. Some would say I’m not even here,” he teased.

Paranormal Love Wednesdays!

It's Wednesday and I'm participating in Paranormal Love Wednesdays. Link to participants. Today, I'm offering a small sampling from Dreamscape.

Written in homage to Agatha Christie, this story is
a haunting, a murder, a thriller, a mystery, a time-travel of sorts, and a love story that transcends time. Above all, this sensual tale is a reader's Easter egg hunt in the truest sense. Not everything is as it appears. Peppered throughout are little clues suggesting a story running behind the scenes.

Setting the Stage~ Jason haunts his house and ponders his death 120 years ago. One day a lovely stranger comes. It looks like she's moving in.

My Six:
He'd watched the pair as they walked around the grounds with pens and paper in hand presumably making notes for repairs. While assessing the pavers that lined his walkway, she looked up at his window curiously as if seeking something. Jason frowned. Did she see him standing there? How odd. He could only be seen when he wanted to. And he did not yet wish to be seen. After the man had driven away in his automobile, the woman retrieved her bags from another smaller vehicle. He watched her come up the walkway. She glanced his way again and she was smiling.

Below, the front door opened and closed, so he headed there, curious about the woman who at this very moment was moving into his house. He was grateful for two things, the first being he'd no longer be alone with only an occasional mouse for company. The second, this young woman bore no resemblance to his beautiful, black-hearted wife.

He thought about her from time to time, his duplicitous wife Cathy, her lover Richard Mason, and his sister Bertha, his murderers. He spent many a night listening to their congratulatory recounting of how they'd set him up, duping him into marrying a woman who from the onset had a lover in the wings. Like the Masons, Cathy too was born and raised in the south at the time of reconstruction and was reared on tales of the glory days. Their sole purpose from the onset in taking his life was so she would inherit all.

When they met she had been such a sweet and shy little beauty, the shyness he later learned to be false. When she comforted him over the untimely death of his father, he'd been surprised by how quickly he fell head over heels for her. Though she'd never voiced it while he was alive, he was well aware of her desire to live in the affluent manner in which her parents and grandparents had lived before the war took it all away. To that end, seeking to win her timid heart and encourage the comfort that would eventually lead his wife into his bed, he gave into Cathy's every whim. No more than two months had passed before he was compelled to offer her marriage. No more than four before he found himself dead with his spirit walking the halls.

"Dreamscape is phenomenal! I will rant and rave about this novel's amazingness because it is rocks in all aspects of writing style, character development, plot, and story line. Rose combines history, mystery, romance, intrigue, and sensuality seamlessly and beautifully in Dreamscape."  ~ A Reader

Sexy Snippets

It's Sunday and time for Sexy Snippets. Participants post just seven sentences to capture the imagination. Today I'm offering a small sampling from Dreamscape ~ a reader-interactive Victorian/contemporary romance.

Setting the Stage~
Jason sits on Lanie's bed contemplating the lovely woman who now lives in his home. As a ghost he knows his touch has no substance, but he surrenders to a sudden desire to touch her and surprises himself in more ways that one.

My Seven:
Against his better judgment, he reached out and touched her hip. Unbelievably, he found her silky soft and very warm. His hand glided up her bare leg. It had been ages since he’d touched anything warm, and frankly he was surprised that he could, for he never could touch Margaret --not even on the night she passed when he tried to hold her hand to bring her comfort. With his hand upon her, he stared at Lanie a long while, deliberating. Being able to touch her like this was akin to being alive again, but he didn’t dismiss the fact the act also made him a cad. Replacing that uncomfortable thought with another, he wondered if his touch might affect her as it was most certainly affecting him.

Here's the story

Peppered throughout are little clues suggesting a story running behind the scenes. Finding them isn't necessary to the telling of the tale, just a fun twist in my writing. Can you find them all before the story ends? The bigger question is... can a ghost find love among the living?

Setting the Stage~
Jason realizes when he touches Lanie's skin, he actually feels her. Her warmth appeals to this ghost. Her living warmth make him feel just a little bit alive.

My Seven:
His entire being desired to lose himself in the living heat of her. There was simply no stopping himself from caressing her, having lost that particular battle of conscience the first night she lay in his bed. He’d convinced himself that as long as he kept his baser needs to himself, touching her while she was completely unaware was a harmless compulsion.

Materializing just under the linens, his glowing form lit the sheet like a Japanese lantern. He whispered to her unconscious mind as she lay curled on her side, “Lay back for me, sweetheart, let me look at you fully while I feel how warm you are.”

Unconsciously responding to his suggestion, she rolled on her back, one arm tossed casually over her pillow.

Once more marveling that he was able to touch her at all, he swept her raven hair back from her lovely face, his thumb lightly traced the delicate arch of her eyebrow.

"Every once in a while you read a book that is so well written and the story so real that when you finished reading it, you almost want to cry because the story is over. This book is one of those. It seamlessly combines it all, history, romance, mystery and sensuality. Without a doubt, this was one of the BEST books I've ever read."

My Sexy Saturday!

It's My Sexy Saturday! Participating authors post 7 paragraphs, 7 sentences, or 7 words. For me, this time it's 7 sentences from my backlist ~ Dreamscape

Written in homage to Agatha Christie,
Dreamscape is a haunting, a murder, a thriller, a mystery, a time-travel of sorts, and a love story that transcends time. Above all, this sensual tale is a reader's Easter egg hunt in the truest sense. Not everything is as it appears. Peppered throughout are little clues suggesting a story running behind the scenes.

Setting the Stage~

Jason makes an amazing discovery.

My Seven~

Within minutes she was sound asleep. As he had for the past three weeks, Jason stretched out beside her, his head propped on his elbow alongside hers on the pillow. He found himself wondering what she dreamed of. Some nights he’d see her delicate brows furrow or the corners of her sweet, rose-tinted lips would turn in a smile. A thought came to him then, and he wondered, If I can influence her unconscious mind when she’s fatigued, could I influence her mind while she sleeps? Could he witness her dream if he tried?

Resisting the overpowering urge to touch her again, he closed his eyes instead and whispered, “Dream of me, sweetheart. Show me where you go each night.” And, just as he projected himself from room to room, the energy of his spirit plied her synapses…and to his complete and utter surprise, he fell into her dream.

Setting the Stage~ Lanie is out on a blind date with friends and Jason sits home watching the clock. What else can a ghost do? After determining a bit of kissing went on, Jason finds himself irritated.

My 8~
Annoyed, Jason swept his hand across the counter and knocked the spoon to the floor with a clatter.
