#MFRWHooks A New Pen Name!

MFRW Authors Blog

It's Wednesday and time for the Marketing for Romance Writers Books Hooks mini hop! Participants post 6-8 sentences from their novel. Find Participants here:

http://mfrwbookhooks.blogspot.com

Today I'm offering a peek from Entice Me ~  a multi-author anthology by the authors from Romance Books '4'
Us. Nine luscious love stories make up our 99¢ anthology. (Watch for the pre-order!)

I have a new pen name and another direction for my creativity. Madeline Archer makes her debut with Heart of Stone. Scroll down to learn more.

Blurb~
The story opens with the notorious witch hunts in 17th Century Salem, Massachusetts.

As formal education for women lacks substance in her own country, Neila Flannigan leaves Ireland in 1904 to attend Radcliffe women’s college America. Shy and introverted, Neila passes her lonesome hours sketching the Harvard grounds and sending drawings home to her father. A chance encounter with a kind and elderly Irish woman inspires her to sketch a statue in an old, unused building. Desperately lonely, Neila ends up sharing her thoughts and feelings with a man carved in stone. Some days it feels like he listens.

Setting the Stage~
In this scene,
the notion of foreboding that has been dogging Finola's steps all day comes to fruition when her daughter’s witch's familiar appears. Nicodemus the raven seems agitated...

My 8~

It should not take this long for Abigayle to venture here. The bird returned and widely circled three more times before disappearing beyond the trees. Finding his behavior both anxious and agitated, Finola frowned and murmured, “Where are ye, girl?”
Turning to the packrat sitting atop the pork barrel, she told her familiar, “I’m feelin’ uneasy, Martin. Abigayle should have come by now.” Her chin jerked skyward, she mumbled, “And will you look at him? Something is amiss.”
Martin nodded.

@MySexySaturday #MySexySaturday #Saturday7 #MSSAuthors

It's My Sexy Saturday! Participating authors post 7 paragraphs, 7 sentences, or 7 words. This time it's 7 paragraphs from Enchanted Skye ~A tale about an American on the run named Jenna who unwittingly unleashes an ancient charm and traps a Selkie unawares.

Setting the Stage:
In a calculation gone awry, Jenna is outside as the hurricane inches toward landfall. Luckily Alex found her.

My Seven:
Alex’s keen Selkie hearing picked up a faint cry. Stumbling, he ran toward it with the horizontal wind buffeting him from the side.
He found Jenna on her knees, struggling to stand, and gathered her into his arms. She wrapped around him as he helped her to her feet. Both tried to speak but their words blew away on the wind. It took everything he had, but he got them safely to the MacNeal house.
He groped the lintel for the key, found it, then opened the door and shoved her inside. Putting all of his weight against the wind, he closed the door behind them.
Jenna was bone weary, half-frozen, and soaked to the skin. Her chattering teeth bit her words. “Oh m-my god, am I glad t-to be out of—”
“Ye could have died out there!” His accumulated fear for her getting the better of him, he’d spun around and grabbed her by the upper arms. Shaking her lightly, he admonished,  “What the hell were ye thinkin’ goin’ out in that?
She tried to twist away from his grasp but too much energy had gone to fighting the storm.
Alex recognized the fiery outrage growing in her eyes. It was the same look he’d seen the night when they were locked in his room. He dropped his hands and said, “Forgive me. Jesus Jenna, I was scared for you.”

@MySexySaturday #MySexySaturday #Saturday7 #MSSAuthors

It's My Sexy Saturday! Participating authors post 7 paragraphs, 7 sentences, or 7 words. The theme this week is My Sexy Date. This time it's 7 paragraphs from Enchanted Skye ~A tale about a family of Scottish Selkie and an American on the run named Jenna who unwittingly unleashes an ancient charm and traps a Selkie unawares.

Setting the Stage:
Jenna's emotionally frazzled day gets worse when she accidentally gets locked in Alex's room. Needless to say, their first meeting doesn't go well...until the scotch comes out. When he offers a strong shoulder to cry on, the  anger she's transferred on to him..uh.. disappears. At this point, Alex doesn't know this fierce desire of his is compounded by the charm.

My Seven:
His animal senses sharp, he could smell her now, a heady note of desire in the sensorial symphony of sea spray, scotch, peat, and soap. Though a tremor of desire fumbled his hands over the zipper, he knew he’d rip the clothes from his body just to have her. He finally managed to drop his jeans and his tenting boxers were quickly discarded with the rest. When his full length sprang free of its confines, her knee momentarily paused. Standing before her with a blazing hard-on, his breath froze at the look in her eyes.

Jenna watched him strip his clothing. Sultry slurred words hurried him along. “You have a very …nice…” Her words trailed off. She licked her lips.

His mind extrapolated the rest he wanted to hear. “I’m glad ye think so, love.” He was driven. Never in his life did he want a woman as badly as he wanted her.

He held himself. Words husky with desire, he whispered in awe, “I ache for ye, Jenna. I ache like I never have.”
Kneeling at the end of the bed, he kissed the top of her foot. Her knee once more swung to and fro. Seeing invitation in that sensual display, he kissed up the length of her leg, murmuring heated declarations of desire between kisses. Though a part of him was keenly aware they didn’t know one another, another part of him was certain he’d known her soul forever. “I can hardly control this hunger for ye. Will ye allow me to love you, Jenna?”

“Hunger?” she asked breathlessly, as though his words weren’t fully registering. Again the knee stopped, this time falling wide.

“Aye, hunger. I’ve thought of nothing else since I first set my eyes upon ye.” Ascending now, he kissed the place above her knee, relishing the heat of her on his lips. Kissing her smooth inner thigh, he murmured against her flesh, “Will ye allow this starving man—” he kissed the velvet between, “—to bring ye pleasure?” He kissed again firmly this time. Tasting how ready she was on his lips, he licked them before asking, “Please say yes, Jenna. Please.” When she didn’t answer, he raised his head and blinked in stunned disbelief. Jenna MacLeod was out cold.

The moment popping like a soap bubble, Alex broke into a hearty laugh and rose. His arousal quickly faded but not his desire, and it left him with an odd ache in his chest. Drinking in the tousled beauty on his bed, he told her regretfully. “Ah, my love, I warned ye the scotch was too strong.”

A thought took him then and he frowned. He hoped it wasn’t the scotch that made her want his lovemaking. He’d hate to see the sharp-tongued witch return.

Sexy Snippets!

It's Sunday and time for Sexy Snippets. Participants post just seven sentences to capture the imagination. Today, I'm offering a sampling from Dreamscape.

Written in homage to Agatha Christie,
Dreamscape is a haunting, a murder, a thriller, a mystery, a time-travel of sorts, and a love story that transcends time. It's also an Easter egg hunt. Not everything is as it appears. Peppered throughout are little clues suggesting a story running behind the scenes. Finding them isn't necessary to the telling of the tale, just a fun twist in my writing. Can you find them all before the story ends? The bigger question is... can a ghost find love among the living?

Setting the Stage~
Jason realizes when he touches Lanie's skin, he actually feels her. Her warmth appeals to this ghost. Her living warmth make him feel just a little bit alive.

My Seven:
His entire being desired to lose himself in the living heat of her. There was simply no stopping himself from caressing her, having lost that particular battle of conscience the first night she lay in his bed. He’d convinced himself that as long as he kept his baser needs to himself, touching her while she was completely unaware was a harmless compulsion.

Materializing just under the linens, his glowing form lit the sheet like a Japanese lantern. He whispered to her unconscious mind as she lay curled on her side, “Lay back for me, sweetheart, let me look at you fully while I feel how warm you are.”

Unconsciously responding to his suggestion, she rolled on her back, one arm tossed casually over her pillow.

Once more marveling that he was able to touch her at all, he swept her raven hair back from her lovely face, his thumb lightly traced the delicate arch of her eyebrow.

"Every once in a while you read a book that is so well written and the story so real that when you finished reading it, you almost want to cry because the story is over. This book is one of those. It seamlessly combines it all, history, romance, mystery and sensuality. Without a doubt, this was one of the BEST books I've ever read."

Marketing for Romance Writers' Books Hooks #MFRWhooks

MFRW Authors Blog
It's Wednesday and time for the Marketing for Romance Writers Books Hooks mini hop! (see linky list below) Participants post 6-8 sentences from their novel. Today I'm offering a bit from  my backlist ~ Dreamscape

Written in homage to Agatha Christie,
Dreamscape is a haunting, a murder, a thriller, a mystery, a time-travel of sorts, and a love story that transcends time. Above all, this sensual tale is a reader's Easter egg hunt in the truest sense. Not everything is as it appears. Peppered throughout are little clues suggesting a story running behind the scenes.

Setting the Stage~ Lanie is out on a blind date with friends and Jason sits home watching the clock. What else can a ghost do? After determining a bit of kissing went on, Jason finds himself irritated.

My 8~
Annoyed, Jason swept his hand across the counter and knocked the spoon to the floor with a clatter.
Lanie jumped at the sound. Frowning, she reached under the chair where a spoon had inexplicably fallen then looked around for anything that might have knocked it on the floor, hoping she didn’t have large mice or, God forbid, rats. Setting it in the sink, she said, “I think I have ghosts.”
Jason’s anger instantly faded as her statement took him by surprise. Testing her, he slowly opened the cabinet door, the old hinges squeaking and groaning. She turned to the sound of the swinging door, and he watched her face carefully. No fear, just curiosity.

Sexy Snippets!

Another Sunday and another Sexy Snippets!

The idea is to post just seven sentences to capture the imagination. Today, I'm offering another small sampling from
my backlist ~ Dreamscape. A haunting, a murder, a mystery, a time-travel of sorts, a reader's puzzle running behind the scenes, and a love that transcends time.

Setting the stage: Lanie rushes to the top of the house to close windows against a storm. The electricity illuminates Jason's ghostly form. She doesn't take it well.

My Seven:
“It’s you,” she whispered awestruck.

Jason nodded in the flickering light.

“I can see you.” Lanie swayed on her feet, feeling lightheaded.

Jason rushed forward to catch her. Her eyes grew huge as she said in awe, “I can feel you.”  She promptly collapsed in his arms.

HUMP DAY HOOK!

It's Wednesday and time for a HUMP DAY HOOK. The weekly event has been refitted to be a themed weekly event. I like themes. Sometimes it's hard to come up with a new hook and a theme gives you something to look for. How this works is same as before -- authors post a tempting portion of their writing following the theme of the week.
This week's theme is Intrigue so I've chosen a bit from Loving Leonardo (book 1 in the series)

Setting the scene: Carlos Posateri is about to acquire the book that will send Nicolas and Ellie on a whirlwind course to danger and love.

My Hook:
Curiously, tonight’s meeting had been arranged by a different man. He’d received a note from one E. Fortuna describing several antique books in his employer’s possession, including one of homoerotic art reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci’s work. Quoting a price, Fortuna added he’d also contacted other potential buyers, no doubt to spur him to act quickly. But in the span of a day, a second note arrived. This one from Signore Falconetti, saying the book changed hands and was still for sale. What happened to E. Fortuna?
